Honeysuckle Morning (213 Words)
“I thought I might find you here.”
Llwan raised his head. His mouth crooked when he saw her and he raised his flask in a half-salute. Gina sat beside him. She took the flask from his loose grip and sniffed.
“Honeysuckle?”
“The best.” The elf moved so she could sit beside him. “It’s very bracing.”
She sat, putting the flask to her lips. She pulled a face. “It’s too sweet.”
The elf laughed. His eyes strayed to the horizon, the sea pale in the soft morning light. Gina watched him, his dark eyes liquid, gleaming like the sea itself. His long hair stirred in a gentle wind.
“Do you ever wonder what’s out there?” she asked.
“I know what’s out there.” His eyes went briefly upward, looking for late stars. “Under and over the water, all worlds in this world are the same.”
“In some sense,” she said, “we make the world we live in.”
“Do we?” His lip twisted. “Perhaps we do. It’s only love that lets us bear it.”
Gina’s heart clenched. She glanced at him in surprise.
“It’s been three years to the day,” said Llwan, quietly. “And I am glad that you’re with me.”
She took his hand shyly. Her voice, when she spoke, was sincere. “I’m glad, too.”

It’s a nice little story mixing magic with philosophy. Makes me want to read what happens next.

I believe that notion, that we make the world we live in, is on point. The little elf has a good friend, it appears.

It’s true that we can’t help our circumstances, but how we face it–the perspective and foundation we face it from–certainly effects how we bear it. Thank you so much for reading 🙂
